Heading into a critical and unpredictable election year, many variables exist as to how the Federal government will position itself to move forward on HVACR and related industries' key issues, including improving US energy use and security, advancing the smart grid and its technologies, as well as regulating the use of high-GWP refrigerants. In the meantime, this issue examines what some state and local governments and municipalities are doing to advance energy efficiency today on regional levels. While local efforts don't carry quite the same regulatory weight as that which is expected from pending and forthcoming national policy, they are equally as important, ground-breaking and encouraging.
