Demands for performance, reliability and cost have shaped the engineering landscape for many years. But today, these demands continue to increase as the HVAC&R, water and allied industries are poised to become influencers in the global movement to create more sustainable indoor and outdoor environments while reducing energy consumption, increasing performance efficiencies and cutting operating costs. Through its EnVisioneering initiative, Danfoss has made developments in technologies like variable speed and oil-free compressors, as well as variable frequency drives. We’re looking ahead to discuss, evaluate and create solutions for issues like natural refrigerants, local/regional heating and cooling efficiency demands and the Smart Grid.
Energy Efficiency and Environmental Responsibility
Today, as concerns about national security, economic growth and environmental standards propagate, energy efficiency is no longer an option and is often considered the most effective way of reducing energy use. Energy demand is on the rise, meaning energy costs are also spiking. And, energy efficiency can result in a reduced dependence on foreign oil sources, enabling energy independence.
Since 1970, research has shown that energy intensity (the amount of energy it takes to produce one dollar’s worth of goods) in the U.S. industrial sector has fallen by about 50%. Half of this reduction is due to improved energy efficiency. And there’s more good news: significant opportunities still remain to further reduce energy consumption and harmful greenhouse gas emissions, minimizing environmental impact for sustainable development and growth.
